The Woods
The Educational Woods extend over an area that offers many opportunities to learn about the environment: the botanical gardens enshrine thousands of native and overseas species, among medieval towers that point to the age-old relationship between man and his territory, and at very close distance from the main historical cities of Umbria.

ABOUT THE FLORA

The Educational Woods host about 2,000 different tree, shrub and herb species that represent more than 100 botanical families.

In the woods you can find two glasshouses – one hosts tropical plants and the other a collection of cactuses and succulent plants – an aquatic garden, a model of forest, an orchard with trees that used to be grown in the past, a “rosarium”, or rose-garden, with about 600 rose varieties, two seed-beds, a nursery garden and a third greenhouse hosting ornamental plants.

ABOUT THE FAUNA

The ichthyofauna includes many fish varieties, such as pikes, eels, roaches, carps and catfish; among the aquatic birds you’ll find geese, swans, ducks, wigeons, tufted ducks, pintails and mallards.
